Preservation of Cultural Heritage

The preservation of cultural heritage in the city of Uman is one of the key projects of the Charitable Foundation. We strive to protect and restore historical monuments that represent an important cultural asset of our country.

The city of Uman has tremendous potential for development and attracting investments, thanks to the annual pilgrimage.

The shrine of Breslov Hasidism in Ukraine is the Grave of Tzaddik Nachman in the city of Uman. By bequeathing to be buried on the territory of the Ancient Jewish Cemetery, Tzaddik Nachman—a spiritual guide for an incredible number of his followers from various corners of the world—has drawn a stream of pilgrimage to Ukraine.

At the same time, for many years the community has been fighting to preserve its cultural heritage while also striving to prevent the desecration of the graves of ancestors who were killed for their religious beliefs.

One of the Foundation's priority tasks is the protection of the territory of the Historical and Cultural Center, which includes the Grave of Tzaddik Nachman. This site, in turn, is located within the boundaries of the Ancient Jewish Cemetery, as marked on an old city plan from 1842.

The Foundation actively cooperates with local authorities and human rights organizations to ensure proper protection and preservation of these historical sites. We promote the restoration of the territory and its improvement in accordance with all necessary requirements and relevant standards. To provide adequate legal protection, existing legal mechanisms have been activated, which should help achieve both the cessation of grave desecration and the prevention of illegal construction on this territory.

Protecting the territory of the Ancient Jewish Cemetery and the Grave of Tzaddik Nachman is not only a matter of religion and history but also of economics and the investment development of the city of Uman.

It should be noted that the preservation of cultural heritage is precisely the magnet that should drive the development of this site, as the issue of keeping the ancient cemetery territory intact is inextricably linked to the prospects for developing the area and attracting investments.
